Do I need to be a good swimmer to join the team?
All you need to be able to do is swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke (this is the length of most high school pools). We believe this is a necessary safety requirement. If you are looking for swimming lessons we strongly recommend the Red Cross program at the Waunakee Community Aquatic Center. Do I have to try out?
No. Our coaching staff will evaluate your swimmer to help place them in the correct group.
What if I am involved in other sports?
Most of our swimmers participate in other activities too. We offer many practices and groups to accommodate almost any schedule.
Are meets held every weekend?
No, and it is up to you how many meets you enter based on your schedule. Meets are fun and are the reward for the practice time put in.
Is there a lot of travel involved?
Most of our meets are within an hour drive of Waunakee and our home pool. In the summer we do travel further to swim in Olympic size outdoor and indoor pools, still most of these meets are within two hours.
Where are practices held?
Practices are held at the Waunakee Aquatic Center. Please visit the Club Info+ tab for more detail on practices, practice groups and expectations.
Can I join at anytime?
Yes, we welcome new swimmers year around.
Do the boys have to wear “Speedos”?
No, although some boys do wear the briefs, most boys opt for the knee-length “jammer” suit.
What is the cost?
WRAT’s fees are very competitive. The cost is based on the group your swimmer is placed in. Current fees can be found on the Club Info+ tab. Our team uses a secure on-line payment and registration system for your convience.
Who does the coaching and what are their certifications?
We have a staff of professional, experienced coaches who love what they do. They are certified through USA Swimming and are required to maintain CPR, Coaches Safety and First Aid certifications. Please click on the coaches button at the top of the web page to read their bios.
